It has been a very busy day in our household but I couldn’t let it pass without a few comments.
Before today I was determined to occupy myself all day so as to miss the coverage of this over-hyped Royal Wedding event. I had arranged to play golf with my son, but events changed and I ended up watching the build-up to the wedding in addition to the ceremony itself before taking my “Prince” William ten-pin bowling with his mates.
Instead of my normal cynicism and criticism of a distasteful over-the-top pageant however, I found myself actually enjoying the understated, modest, humble and tasteful proceedings as they unfolded. It seemed to me that the couple were determined to keep things as normal as possible and to engage with the general public by not being lavish and opulent.
The service was simple and poignant. The couple had even compiled their own prayer for contemplation. The music chosen was sublime and how lucky were they that John Rutter has composed such a wonderful wedding anthem which was performed beautifully on the day. The dress was perfect. The weather held. It all went smoothly and without a hitch.
Let’s hope that their future is as blessed.
