Imitation

is the sincerest form of flattery the saying goes. And so it can appear.

It can also be unnerving and unwelcome when it becomes obvious that a person is copying everything you do. It is actually very invasive and inappropriate and shows a complete lack of respect. It is imitation which not only pales into insignificance when compared to the original but is quite embarrassing to watch fuelled by well-meaning but misguided encouragement.

I’m lucky. My psychologist has always told me that I have a heightened sense of my surroundings and behaviour and have acted accordingly. I am very self-aware and always conscious of over-stepping boundaries. In fact at times, I have probably been too concerned about  behaving “properly” but for these qualities I am grateful.

Some aren’t so lucky.
